Australia Visitor Visa Subclass 600

The subclass 600 visa has various streams.

What is the Tourist Stream?

The Tourist Stream of the Subclass 600 visa allows you to visit Australia for:

  • Holidays and leisure travel
  • Visiting family or friends
  • Recreational activities like sightseeing, short courses (under 3 months), or cultural tours

You can apply for this stream either from outside Australia or while already in the country, depending on your circumstances.

Business Stream

This visa allows you to visit Australia for business reasons for up to 3 months.

Business visitor activities include-

  • make general business or employment enquiries
  • investigate, negotiate, enter into or review a business contract
  • conduct activities as part of an official government visit
  • take part in a conference, trade fair or seminar. You can’t be paid by the organisers to take part
  • undertake tourist activities

You cannot do paid work as a holder of a business visitor visa.

Approved Destination Status stream

This visa is for citizens from certain areas of China visiting Australia on a tour organised by an approved travel agent.

Frequent traveller stream

This visa stream is for citizens of the People’s Republic of China, Brunei, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam or Timor Leste who travel often to Australia for tourism or business visitor activities.

Sponsored family stream

This visa is similar to visa in the tourist stream. But you need an eligible sponsor for this visa.

Eligible sponsors are-

  • spouse or de facto partner
  • parent or child
  • brother or sister
  • grandparent or grandchild
  • aunt or uncle
  • niece or nephew
  • the step equivalent of the above.

The sponsor needs to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

A friend, cousin, fiancée, in-law or a New Zealand citizen cannot become a sponsor. An in-law and cousin can sponsor in very limited circumstances.

This visa is granted with the No Further Stay Condition. This means that you cannot apply for another visa while you are in Australia.

The sponsor can be asked to pay a security deposit if asked by the department. The amount is usually between AUD 5,000 and AUD 15,000 per person
