What Can You Do with Partner Visa (Subclass 100)?
With the Permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 100), you can:
- Live permanently in Australia.
- Work and study without any restrictions.
- Access Medicare, Australia’s public health care system.
- Join Adult Migrant English Programs (if eligible).
- Travel freely in and out of Australia for up to five years.
- Sponsor eligible family members for Australian visas.
- Apply for Australian citizenship once eligible.
- Be married or in a genuine de facto relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- If in a de facto relationship, it must usually last at least 12 months unless exceptional circumstances apply.
- You must already hold the temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 309) before applying for the permanent visa.
- Your Australian partner must sponsor you, and their sponsorship must be approved by the Department of Home Affairs.
- You and any family members included in your application must meet Australian health and character standards.
- This includes police clearances and medical examinations.
- Any debts to the Australian Government by you or your family members must be paid or have repayment plans.
- Apply for Temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 309): Start by applying for and getting the temporary visa. The permanent visa is part of this process.
- Assessment for Permanent Residency: After holding the temporary visa for about two years, your eligibility for the permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 100) will be assessed. You may receive the permanent visa sooner if you meet special criteria like having children together or being in a long-term relationship.
- Submit Proof of Relationship: Provide documents proving your genuine and ongoing relationship. This includes evidence of financial support, shared life, social activities, and emotional commitment.
- Wait for Decision: The Department of Home Affairs will inform you when your visa application has been processed.
- 75% of Partner Visa applications are processed within 15 months.
- 90% of applications are processed within 19 months.
