The Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408) allows you to live and work in Australia for a limited time to take part in specific events or activities. This visa is ideal for individuals involved in government-endorsed events, sports, research, entertainment, religious work, or other cultural or social activities.

What You Can Do with This Visa

This visa lets you:

  • Stay in Australia temporarily for specific short-term work or activities
  • Take part in events, research, or community programs
  • Work in industries like entertainment, religion, sports, or as a superyacht crew member
  • Bring eligible family members (if applicable)

Visa Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Subclass 408 Visa, you must:

  • Be sponsored or supported by an eligible organization (if required)
  • Have the necessary skills to carry out the proposed activity
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Have adequate health insurance during your stay
  • Show genuine temporary stay intention (GTE requirement)
  • Be financially capable of supporting yourself and any dependents

English Language Requirement

Applicants under the Special Program stream must demonstrate Functional English.

Sponsor Requirements

If you’re applying within Australia or for a stay longer than 3 months, your sponsor must provide:

  • Sponsor Transaction Reference Number (TRN) or Sponsorship Application ID
  • Sponsor approval letter or receipt
  • A written statement confirming sponsorship obligations for you and your family members

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirement

You must prove that your intention is to stay in Australia temporarily. Immigration will assess:

  • Your personal circumstances
  • Immigration history
  • Compliance with visa conditions
  • If under 18, the intentions of parents or guardians
